RAW IS WAR!

WWE Raw is war used to be one of my favorite video games as a teenager. This is a wrestling video game based off the tv show World wrestling entertainment. The wwe is all about rivalries and special moves. My favorite move was the "Rock Bottom" by the Rock. My friends in highschool loved 'stone cold steve austin' and 'the undertaker.' And their favorite moves were the stunner and the pile driver.
The reason I am talking about this game is because I believe it did bring about violence within our friend circle. The article about the video game revolution http://www.pbs.org/kcts/videogamerevolution/impact/myths.html spoke about how kids that were exposed to violence through video games were less likely to commit crimes and showcase 'antisocial' behavior. However I disagree with that statement. I believe it is not entirely accurate. I would go further and say that it depends on the games the kids have been brought up playing.
I for one, have seen the violence from video games infiltrate my life. One of my friends and I once got into a fight about something, we argued and began punching each other in the face. We started acting like our favorite characters from the video game and when we did the characters special move, things got really ugly. My friend got stitches in his head because I gave him the rock bottom on a concrete floor.

Now I am considered a person who never fights but my most violent years were when I used to play that video game.

What do you guys think?  Do you feel that violence from certain video games transcend into the real world?

  1. I think that violent video games create violent acts. I was not a fan of WWE until I came to the United States. I bought the game for playsation and sometimes after playing video games I would play/imitate with my brother the fights. To make the long story short, we always got hurt or into a real fight because of it.

  2. My darling dearest,

I think it's hard to tangibly trace where violence comes from in individuals. One argue that the individual could be naturally violent, or that the media could illuminate these tendencies. As far as the CORE cause of violence, I don't think a virtual video game can extremely alter a humans behavior. Maybe they provoke humans inner violence? Who knows.

However, I do think there is something to be said when parents do not let their kids watch violent TV shows or video games. I don't think it's a good influence on kids, but I find it hard to believe it is the root cause of violence.

  3. I do not believe that watching an act causes one to act in a similar manner. Sure my friends and I would try these wrestling moves and sometimes would get banged up, but is that not just being a kid? I think that at every stage is one's life a diffent form of physical interaction with another is necessary. That being said, what else do you expect from young kids that just want to interact with one another?

  4. Kids around the world watch all sorts of violence, however once a small amount actually do violent things. I think it totally depends on the situation, the amount of involvement and the most important the emotional make-up. Only if one is wanting to let all the violence into ones mind will such things happen.
